7th Meeting Notes
Hey Everyone!
Our 7th meeting at the Kearns Library went very well, and we were able to get a lot of business done. I am proud to announce that today we have two new additions to our amazing administrative staff!
Contest Finder: Kara Rowley!
Kara will be our official lookout for writing contests and competitions. These are very important events for aspiring writers, and may be just what you need to be discovered! Congrats Kara!
Event Coordinator: Kellie Ann Halverson!
Kellie Ann has offered to help us out with her amazing connections with various local arts councils and has many exciting ideas on how we can add some zing to our calendars. Thank you Kellie Ann!

What We Do At Our Meetings
What do we do at our meetings?
The Awesome Author's group meets weekly (so far on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM at the Kearns Library in Kearns UT). Authors in this group may work on and submit for review any kind of writing including Novels, Screenplays, Peotry, Short Stories, Non-Fiction, and so forth.
In each meeting, we talk about our writing projects and hear advice and comments from other members of the group about how to become better writers and work our way to publication. We occasionally have visits from Published Authors who also give great advice. We bring small selections of our work (such as a chapter of a novel) which we trade with each other.
If you would like to join us at our next meeting, please bring five printed copies of a small selection of your work for others to take home and review. We will review each other's work individually, between meetings.
Here is our basic agenda:
6:00 - Each member gives a brief update on their current projects. We will also meet new members and hear about what they are working on.
6:15 - A "Writing tip of the week" is given by a member who was assigned the week before. (This will come from a Writer's Manual or a Writing tips book.)
6:30 - We discuss group policies and procedures and vote on any changes which may need to take place. Changes to how our group runs can by made by majority vote in any meetings where at least five members are present. We also talk about new tools available to us, ways that we can better work with the public, and so forth.
6:45 - Near the end of the meeting, each Author distributes their five copies of their work to five other authors, who will review them over the week. Each Author also recieves about five copies, which they will review as well.

Using Google Docs
How to Use our Google Docs Folder to post and view work online:
To post a cooy of your work online (so that it can be reviewed by people who can't make it to every meeting) simply copy it into a new Google Document and save it in our group folder, "The Awesome Author's Group."
In order to have access to this Google Docs folder, you must have a google account, which you can create by following these steps:
- Visit www.google.com
- Click on the "Documents" tab on the top of the page.
- Click on the "Sign-up" button on the top right.
- Follow the directions on setting up a google account.
Once you have a google account, please send me (Nicholas Burk) a message here on facebook. In that message, please let me know that you would like to be granted access to our Gogle Documents Folder. All I have to do then, is simply add your email address. Any other member of our group who has access can also add your email to the list of those with access to the folder.
As soon as you are granted access, you are ready to post and view work! You should see other's work already listed as links in the folder. Simply clicking on them will open them up for you to review them.
To post your own work, please follow these steps"
- Make sure you have opened our group folder.
- Click on the "Create" button. This will open up a menu for you.
- Choose the option "Document."
- This will open up a blank page where you can copy and past your work. This document program is a lot like "Word" or other programs you are used to.
- (You can also upload your work using the button next to the "Create" button.)
- Once your work is saved, click on the "Home" link on the left.
- Click on your new document and drag it ontop of our folder "The Awesome Author's Group." This will move it to inside the folder, allowing all group members to see it and review it.
Please remember to add all of the selections of your work you wish to be reviewed to this folder. After you feel you have recieved enough reviews for a particular piece, you can also delete it from our group folder.
When you add something new to our group folder, it is also a good idea to let everyone know with a quick post in our group on facebook.
